The fiery core of the earth was being emptied, large masses of the surface were becoming unstable, The shell of the world was only just being held together. Somewhere else, the leader of the creatures smiled wide, even though his forces were diminished and those he had left were sick and dying. Enough of his soldiers would become immune to the magic virus, mutation was not unknown to their kind.

"We need to be ready now. They will not wait any longer. The monsters will come for us. We are the last line of defense left. The beast, the first and the new." Damien smiled wide when he said this. Armor was being prepared, Bellows was busy preparing it. Eve was sitting across from Damien but she was not listening, Damien was used to it. He spoke to himself most of the time, if anyone listened he would be more surprised. Eve was away in her mind, a sea of green energy. Damien made sure that the coffee table was between Eve and himself.

"I have never liked magic. It scares me, and I don't get scared." Damien picked up a newspaper glanced at it and put It down again. Eve began to moan. She twitched a few times and went limp.

"Bellows!" Damien screamed.

Eve was lost now in the green world. She floated in the moving landscape and was at peace. She heard whispers from the world. The remaining magicians, real magicians were trying to hold the creatures back. The minor gods and demons that inhabited the earth were trying to hold them back. The creatures simply laughed, laughed in their faces. A few creatures died with smiles. The virus was still spreading. Eve watched the lights blinking out. It was happening less and less though. The creatures were becoming immune. She felt it happening, the creatures who survived would be stronger, harder to kill. She knew Bellows and Damien could not handle it without her, this made her sad. The green made her happy, it made her forget.

"Oh, Eve. Why'd you do that?" Bellows looked down at her and smiled as she came back, "I know you're afraid, but really, you don't need to be."

"Didn't you know, you will survive this even if everything else dies." Damien says this as he rubs his face, up and down.

"That's just it. I don't want to."

The three sit there for a moment.

"Too bad."

###

"Do you know where they are?" Eve said.

"The creatures? Of course I do. They're everywhere."

"How can we defeat them?"

"We can and we will." Damien said this, which surprised the other two greatly.

"Well, yes, of course. The armor is nearly finished and then we will charge the keep of the creatures king. If he falls, they all fall."

"It all seems like a fairy tale." Eve said rubbing her temple.

"It is. We are in a tale of good versus evil."

"Hurumph!" Damien smiled.

"Good and evil versus oblivion then. These stories always work out though. Really don't worry I have done this before, I always win."
